Frequently Asked Questions
I’m going on a beach vacation, how long should I wait to go swimming after i get my tattoo?
We recommend that you wait a minimum of 2 weeks before you go swimming with your fresh tattoo. This amount of time allows for your tattoo to be fully healed.
Please do not soak in the bath, or jump in the pool, lake, ocean, hot-tub, or any other body of water until your tattoo is fully healed. This will yield the best results and the least risk of infection.
I forgot how to heal my tattoo, what do i do?
If you were given a traditional bandage:
After about 4 hours, remove the bandage and wash your tattoo in the shower. Use warm water and let the tattoo soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Lather the tattoo with mild, unscented soap until it no longer feels slimy. Rinse clean and pat dry. Do not re-bandage your tattoo! The next morning, wash your tattoo again and then leave it alone for 3-4 days. Keep the tattoo out of the direct spray of the shower, if it gets wet, pat it dry afterwards.
After leaving it alone for 3-4 days, you may put a little bit of unscented lotion on your tattoo twice a day. A small amount of lotion unscented, water based hand lotion works great. Make sure the lotion is worked into the the skin, and do not let the lotion sit on top, you want the air to reach your healing skin. When the skin is ready, it will start to flake and fall off. Let this happen on its own, do not scratch or pick at the tattoo, because this will create light spots, which will not help your cool factor.
If you were given second skin:
Remove the second skin after 3-4 days and give your tattoo a wash with unscented soap. You may put a little bit of unscented lotion on your tattoo twice a day.
Your tattoo will be healed in 7-10 days, some spots may take a little longer. After all the skin has flaked off, that’s it! You may go back to showering normally. Please use a sunscreen with 45 SPF or higher when you will be in the sun after it is healed. Do not apply sunscreen to your healing tattoo. This will keep your tattoo looking bright.
